More Control

A friend who often sends me text messages, some of them cryptic and some clearly only intended to let off steam, sent me one just now that said, "I need more control over my life."

I replied, "Tell us about it, luv. You need control, I need control. Earlier today I came upon a person smashing the remains of his stereo tuner into tinier bits. He's looking for control, too. All of us here in this handbasket need more control."

//The Magic Eight-Ball is on vacation. Filling in for him is his cousin the Control Voice, which says, "There is nothing wrong with your set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture."\\

You know why we don't have any control? We try to exert it too much.

This has been borne in on me more and more lately. I can't let go and trust the universe, and recently all my choices have turned to crud. (Even knowing this, I still can't let go, though I tell myself it's because if I let go, I'm not the only one who falls.) My husband is in a work situation where attempts by upper management to increase control of the work by increasing control of the workforce has resulted in less and less work getting accomplished although more and more effort is expended by fewer and fewer people (as workers leave). And it's not just the Present Administration among world governments that's losing all control by trying to control everything.

Life is a wave. Until we learn to ride it, we're going to keep wiping out.
